The Mouse and the Lion
Minitech's logo and byline were inspired by Aesop's fable of the Mouse and the Lion. We like to show our clients that you don't need a big corporate with expensive offerings to provide personalised solutions. Sometimes the simplest solution is the most effective - you may feel your IT concerns are pretty big, but Minitech is the ideal size and fit to address them all.
The Fable in Full:
Aesop's Lion and the Mouse
A mouse was running through the forest one day when he came across a sleeping lion. In his panic he scampered over the lion's nose and the lion woke, pinning the mouse down with a giant paw. The mouse pleaded to be spared, saying "If you let me go, one day I will repay the favour." The lion laughed, but let the mouse go. Not many days after, while hunting in the forest, the lion became trapped in a hunter's net. His roars of anger rang through the trees and the mouse heard and recognised him. Hurrying to the lion, the mouse gnawed through the ropes of the net and freed the lion. As the lion was freed the mouse said "Now you can see, even a mouse can help a lion"
Our Approach
We recognise that the IT advice industry has largely taken a helpdesk or break/fix approach to working with clients, however at Minitech we think there's a better way.
We don't want to simply fix problems when they arise, we want to train your team so that they are able to troubleshoot basic issues themselves. We want our clients to feel comfortable using tech, empowered to help each other when a simple issue arises and confident calling us for help when they need it, knowing we will not only fix the issue but use it as a training opportunity where possible.
We approach our work in IT consulting much the same as other professionals, in that we will discover the scope of work to be completed, make a high level plan and provide ongoing support alongside planned projects to move you from where you are now to where you want your business to be.
Many clients have no idea how much their IT could be doing for them, so while we do always start from the beginning, (checking your security, basic functionality and pain points as a business) we then work with you to imagine how your business could be even faster, smoother or better if you had the right tools and that's where the fun begins.
Our Experience
Our team have several years in IT under their belts, not just in New Zealand but working in the UK and Japan as well. This means we have seen the good, bad and the ugly of the industry and know what we want to replicate and what to avoid!
We also have the advantage of coming from varied backgrounds, having worked in areas outside IT which mean while we do have the technical expertise, we also have excellent customer service and communication skills, having worked in a range of client facing industries.
Leo, the director of Minitech, has a background in financial advice, both in the UK and NZ, which he very much enjoyed before transitioning into IT. As a result of his experience in this industry Minitech works extensively with financial service providers, aiding them in meeting their obligations under the new regulations and enabling them to work more effectively with clients, particularly through automating processes where possible.
